Resumo:
“Poly(fullerene)s, that is, polymers made using fullerenes as a monomer, have long been thought of as a highly specialised and rather niche subject area. However, recent papers have shown that these materials are key to delivering perovskite and organic solar cells that can withstand the rigours of everyday life. Fullerenes have been explored for use in anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-cancer and solar applications. However, it is the uncontrolled aggregation of fullerene which limits their exploitation. Incorporating fullerenes into polymers means that we can control their solubility and modify their electronic and self-assembly properties. This lecture hopes to unravel the ways of making polymers from fullerene and explore recently discovered ways of making them with biocompatible and more environmentally friendly routes. To further expand their applicability to wider applications we also look to the syntheses of amphiphilic poly(fullerene)s. ”
